Contains field notes on rivers, timber, geology, and Indians written in the latter half of 1828 while he was a Second Lieutenant with the 4th Infantry at Jefferson Barracks. Place names mentioned include: Blue River, Canadian River, Boar Creek, Osage River, Kanzas River, M. de Sein (?), Rock Creek, Beast River, and Neosho River. Toward the back of the book is a poem dated December, 1831. Indian words and phrases are written on the last few pages. |
